Metal Coatings Use our Metal Coatings to easily
create a metal finish on almost any surface. The Metal Coatings are
ground metal suspended in a non-toxic water based acrylic binder. They
may be applied to both metal and non-metal surfaces such as glass, wood,
ceramics, concrete, foam, or resin. All of our patinas, solvent dyes,
stains, and waxes work with the Metal Coatings providing you with
endless possibilities for your finishes. The Metal Coatings are very
durable outside (10 to 15 years) and
are non-hazardous. Color chart for the Metal Coatings (click
for detail). The Metal Coatings are available in two different formulas - B and C. You are able to apply patinas to both whether wet or dry. Once dry, either may be burnished with steel wool in order to highlight or adjust the patina. Additionally, more patina may be added after burnishing. Type C contains more metal than Type B and dries hard enough to be polished with a polishing wheel. One Gallon of Metal Coating will cover 100 square feet (this includes a recommended two layers). Click here for additional application instructions.
Below is a sample of Copper Metal Coating C on a ceramic sculpture. A black patina was then used as a finish. The following are samples of Bronze Metal Coating C over plaster. Notice how the C Coating can be polished to makes it appear as though it is a real bronze piece. Traditional Tiffany Green patina was applied as the finish. Below left is a sample of Silver Metal Coating C on cast plastic by Karen Smith. On the right is a sample of Silver Metal Coating C over hydrostone.
